Summary

From the #1 New York Times bestselling author of Then She Was Gone and The Family Upstairs comes another riveting work of “gloriously twisted” (Marie Claire) psychological suspense。

On a beautiful summer night in a charming English suburb, a young woman and her boyfriend disappear after partying at the massive country estate of a new college friend。

One year later, a writer moves into a cottage on the edge of the woods that border the same estate。 Known locally as the Dark Place, the dense forest is the writer’s favorite area for long walks and it’s on one such walk that she stumbles upon a mysterious note that simply reads, “DIG HERE。”

Could this be a clue towards what has happened to the missing young couple? And what exactly is buried in this haunted ground?

With her signature “rich, dark, and intricately twisted” (Ruth Ware, New York Times bestselling author) prose, Lisa Jewell has crafted a dazzling work of suspense that will keep on the edge of your seat until the final page。

There were some solid twists (especially at the very end) as all secrets were revealed, and there were some things I definitely did not see coming。 Thanks to S&S Book Club Favorites for the sneak peek at this recent release! 。。。more

Won a free book through goodreadsI really enjoyed this read! It wasn’t so much of a whodunnit but more of how does everything play out that I liked。 Having very short chapters also aided in the read as I have a pretty short attention span and it kept my interest the entire way。 Highly recommend

Somehow, this was my first Jewell read but it definitely won’t be my last。 This book is told from multiple perspectives (Kim, Tallulah, and Sophie) and a dual timeline, which really kept me on edge and needing to know what happens。 I thought all of the POVS flowed together so seamlessly and finished this in a handful of sittings。 I loved Tallulah and Kim’s characters。 Sophie’s was a bit less developed but still enjoyable。 I also think there were some loose ends that needing tying with her。 Also, Somehow, this was my first Jewell read but it definitely won’t be my last。 This book is told from multiple perspectives (Kim, Tallulah, and Sophie) and a dual timeline, which really kept me on edge and needing to know what happens。 I thought all of the POVS flowed together so seamlessly and finished this in a handful of sittings。 I loved Tallulah and Kim’s characters。 Sophie’s was a bit less developed but still enjoyable。 I also think there were some loose ends that needing tying with her。 Also, it feels like there were one too many side plots/things thrown in just to make everything connect perfectly。 I did not guess the ending and thought it was good, but not something where I was floored and shocked。 All in all, this was a suspenseful and addictive read。 I’m definitely excited to read more from this author now。 This gets a 4 star rating from me。 Thank you to NetGalley and Atria Books for the eARC in exchange for my honest review! 。。。more

I couldn’t put this book down。 I spent the better part of today clued to my chair turning the pages as quickly as I could。 This story is at once a love story between a mother and her daughter, deep dive into to the dynamics of love and relationships, and one riveting mystery。 Lisa Jewel, you outdid yourself! 5/5 - Highly recommend

I find it hard to say anything other that fabulous for anything Lisa Jewell writes, she is one of my favourite authors of all time。 I really enjoyed this book, I liked how it slipped from past to present, without getting confusing。 The characters and storyline were believable and it had a bit of a murder mystery feel to it。 I was expecting a bigger twist at the end, but all in all I did enjoy it。

Two people disappear after a party。 Are they dead or alive。 This book is full of twists。 It took me a minute to get into it but once I did it held my interest。 The story is told from multiple viewpoints。 The ending was a surprise。 Thank you to net galley for an advanced readers copy。

I've enjoyed all of Lisa Jewell's previous books, but her latest - The Night She Disappeared - is a new favorite!Tallulah and her boyfriend Zack disappear one night without a trace。 Tallulah's mother Kim knows her daughter would never abandon her wee son。 But a year passes and the police are no closer to an answer。 That changes when a new headmaster and his girlfriend Sophie, a cozy mystery writer move into the village。 When she finds a sign saying 'Dig Here" in her back garden, Sophie does。 And I've enjoyed all of Lisa Jewell's previous books, but her latest - The Night She Disappeared - is a new favorite!Tallulah and her boyfriend Zack disappear one night without a trace。 Tallulah's mother Kim knows her daughter would never abandon her wee son。 But a year passes and the police are no closer to an answer。 That changes when a new headmaster and his girlfriend Sophie, a cozy mystery writer move into the village。 When she finds a sign saying 'Dig Here" in her back garden, Sophie does。 And the first clue to what might have happened is found。。。Jewell tells the tale in three timelines with multiple points of view。 I was hooked as every chapter gives us more hints to the past, more information in the present and a cold inkling as to what might have transpired。 Jewel gives us well drawn protagonists in grieving parent Kim and amateur detective Sophie。 These characters are imbued with personal storylines as well, quite believable in their relationships, doubts, loss and more。 Jewell ekes out the story of Tallulah before she disappeared and the reader can see what's coming as her narrative progresses。 (Don't peek ahead though! I wasn't entirely right in my guess) There are plenty of supporting characters and each and every one of them seems to have trouble with the truth。 Who should we believe? I really enjoyed Sophie's sleuthing skills。 I always wanted to grow up and become Nancy Drew, so mysteries are favorite genre。 And Jewell has written a great one - the plotting is excellent, the settings are atmospheric (love the creepy mansion in the woods) and the varying timelines and voices really worked for me。 And kept me up late as I really needed to know what (or who) happened to Tallulah。 A great page turner。 。。。more

The story is told in multiple POVs as well as told in different time periods。 This story gripped me pretty early on。 It was a slow build in the beginning but once it picked up steam I couldn't put it down。 I was so invested。 The character building was done so well that by the end I was so attached to some of the characters while I thoroughly despised some as well。 It really explores human relationships and what some of us will do to stay within our emotional comfort zones and what some will do to break outside of them。 If you like a bit of who dun it, family drama, and spooky houses。。。 this is right up your alley 。 。。。more
